Prioritize Sleep
During the winter, the shorter days make it easier for you to prioritize sleep due to the fact that the sun sets early in the evening. However, during the spring and summer months, the sun doesn’t set until later at night, giving you more of a reason to hang out with friends or go do something fun after work. Unfortunately, if you’re up until all hours of the night, your body isn’t getting the sleep it needs to function, which can, in turn, affect how much weight you lose.
When your body is deprived of sleep, you become hungrier as a result. This happens because your body is receiving energy from the food that you eat. That being said, when people are hungry, they choose to eat foods that are high in carbohydrates and sugar because they give you energy quickly. While these foods may give you the energy your body craves, they aren’t helping you stay on track of your summer body goals.
Use the Buddy System
Going to the gym or taking time out of your busy schedule to exercise may not be your favorite thing to do, but it’s necessary if you want to get in shape and look good while you’re hanging out at the beach this summer. Many people make the commitment to go to the gym and get in shape, but their goals fall flat due to a lack of motivation. If you’re having trouble getting to the gym or even going for a walk outside, then try to use the buddy system to hold yourself accountable.
When you’re the only one going to the gym, it’s easy to make up excuses and tell yourself it’s okay if you don’t go. However, if you have a workout partner, it makes it more difficult to bail on your exercise routine. Instead of simply letting yourself down, you’re also letting someone else down, and for many people, that’s enough of a reason to stick to their goals.
Eat More Protein
You’ve probably heard or read about people eating higher amounts of protein or drinking protein shakes when they’re trying to get in shape. You should not make protein your sole source of food, but it should be an important part of your diet. Start your morning off by eating a protein-rich breakfast, and try to incorporate more sources of protein into your meals throughout the day. Not only will this help you feel full and help you cut back on snacking, but eating protein can also provide you with more energy for a longer period of time, unlike carbohydrates and sugars which give you a short burst of energy followed by a crash.
Set Reasonable Goals
This time of year comes with a lot of pressure to look your very best, but it’s important to make sure that you set reasonable goals for what you can achieve in a limited amount of time. It can be extremely frustrating when your weight plateaus or you simply aren’t losing as much as you would have liked. Instead of giving up on your goals, go back and try and create more reasonable goals for yourself. For example, there is a good chance that you won’t be able to lose 40 pounds in a month. Instead, take your goals one step at a time, and celebrate the small achievements instead of getting frustrated and giving up when the end goal looks like it’s nowhere in sight.
