Body Lift

A body lift procedure is similar to a tummy tuck procedure. However, instead of solely focusing on the abdominal area, a body lift can also help improve the contours and appearance of the buttocks and thighs. During a body lift procedure, the surgeon improves the shape and tone of the tissue in these areas while also removing excess sagging skin and fat.

If a body lift procedure sounds like the ideal procedure to help you achieve your desired appearance, the team at The Vu Center is here to help. Our board-certified plastic surgeons have years of experience working with people just like you, and their goal is to help you feel more confident and comfortable in your own skin. If you are interested in one of our plastic or cosmetic procedures, contact our Portland plastic surgery clinic to schedule a consultation.

Body Lift Candidates

Loose or sagging skin and excess fat can leave you feeling self-conscious instead of confident in your body. If you or someone you know feels this way, then a body lift procedure may be the right solution for you!

A body lift is designed to improve the shape and tone of your body to give you a more appealing figure. That being said, a body lift is not intended to strictly be used to remove excess fat. However, a body lift procedure can be combined with a liposuction procedure to help achieve your desired appearance.

An ideal candidate for a body lift is someone who:

  • Has significantly loose soft tissue in one or many areas
  • Is a nonsmoker
  • Is committed to leading a healthy lifestyle
  • Is healthy without medical conditions that may impair their recovery or pose a risk for surgery

In addition to the conditions listed above, we also recommend that each patient has reasonable expectations for the results of their body lift. It’s important to understand that not all patients are the same, and your results may not be the same as the before and after photos on our website. That being said, our surgeons work hard to achieve the desired outcome for each and every patient.

Preparing for Surgery

At The Vu Center, we require that each patient schedules a consultation prior to their surgery. The consultation provides the opportunity to meet with your surgeon, discuss the steps of your procedure, ask questions, and work out any details regarding your desired results. We want each and every one of our patients to feel completely comfortable every step of the way, and the consultation is a great way to do just that! Depending on the desired outcome you express during the consultation, your surgeon may provide you with some options that can better achieve those results. For example, if you would like to eliminate excess fat, your surgeon may suggest coupling the body lift with liposuction.

Once you and your surgeon have discussed the procedure, your options, and any questions or concerns you have regarding the body lift, you will be able to schedule a time for your surgery. Before you leave, your surgeon will also provide you with a list of pre-op instructions that you should follow to help reduce the risk of complications during your procedure.

Procedure Steps

It’s important to note that because a body lift addresses many areas of the body, this procedure does require an extensive number of incisions. The length and pattern of the incisions will depend on the areas you plan to address during the procedure. As a result, you may experience some scarring that can fade over time, and your surgeon will do their best to strategically place the incision so you can easily cover them with clothing.

The most common technique used for a body lift involves making an incision that is similar to a bikini pattern. This allows the surgeon to tighten the abdomen, groin, waist, buttock, and thigh areas in one procedure. Once the incision is made, the surgeon will be able to remove excess skin, as well as reposition and tighten the underlying tissues. If your surgeon recommended liposuction to remove excess fat, they will proceed to do so at this time.

Finally, the surgeon will close the incisions using either sutures, skin adhesives, tapes, or clips.

Results and Recovery

The great thing about a body lift is that the results are visible almost immediately! However, it may take up to two years for the final results to fully develop. Additionally, there will be some visible scarring, but they may fade with age.

After closing the incisions, your surgeon may apply dressings or bandages to the incisions. Before leaving the surgical facility, your surgeon will provide you with post-op instructions on how to care for the bandages and clean the incisions while they heal. If you have any questions about your recovery, be sure to ask your surgeon before you go home. You can also contact The Vu Center and speak to a member of our friendly staff.
