JUVÉDERM®
There are many life changes and situations you have to deal with as a result of getting older. That being said, one of the most common complaints people have about aging is the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. As you age, your skin loses elasticity, which can cause it to sag or accentuate the appearance of wrinkles. Luckily, there are many procedures and cosmetic treatments available that are designed to treat exactly that, including Juvéderm®!
If you are interested in decreasing or eliminating the signs of fine lines and wrinkles, then a Juvéderm treatment may be just what you need. At The Vu Center in Portland, we offer a variety of plastic and cosmetic treatments that are designed to help you feel more comfortable in your own skin. Learn more about how you can benefit from our Juvéderm cosmetic procedure, and contact our Portland plastic surgery clinic to request a consultation today!
What Is Juvéderm?
Juvéderm is an FDA-approved dermal filler that comes in a gel form. The main ingredient used in Juvéderm fillers is hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally hydrating ingredient that is safe for all skin types. When injected into the skin, Juvéderm works to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and replenish the skin’s natural hyaluronic acid supply.
One of the most common misconceptions about Juvéderm is that its only use is to fix fine lines and wrinkles. However, Juvéderm is also a great solution for those looking to effectively treat acne scars and other facial scars.
Who Is a Candidate for Juvéderm?
Because Juvéderm is a medical procedure, it’s vital that every patient who elects to have this treatment is healthy both physically and emotionally. It’s understandable that the signs of aging can decrease your confidence or make you feel as though you aren’t as beautiful as you once were, but it’s important to ensure that every patient has reasonable expectations for what the Juvéderm treatment can and can’t do. The results following the treatment may vary from patient to patient.
It’s important that every patient is physically healthy as well. While the Juvéderm treatment doesn’t require surgery or anesthesia, it’s important for patients to be physically healthy to ensure that the treatment goes as it should. Physical healthiness will also help the patient heal as quickly as possible, allowing them to enjoy the results of their procedure.
Prior to Your Treatment
Prior to your treatment, your doctor will give you a set of detailed instructions that you should follow to ensure that you achieve the best results following your treatment. In addition to the set of instructions that are specific for your Juvéderm treatment, you should also avoid taking any Aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or other related medications. Be sure to tell your doctor if you are taking any herbal supplements, as certain vitamins and supplements may have a negative reaction with the treatment.
During Your Treatment
During your initial consultation with your doctor, they will examine your face to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for the treatment and what areas of your face can benefit from the Juvéderm treatment. When the day arrives for your treatment, your doctor will use part of your appointment to better analyze your face and determine a treatment plan. In addition to determining where to inject the treatment, your doctor will also take the time to determine where not to inject the treatment in order to help you achieve the best results possible.
Once the injection sites are mapped out, your doctor will give you a mild anesthetic for comfort and inject small portions of Juvéderm into the necessary areas of your face. You will notice that your doctor uses small amounts of Juvéderm in many areas instead of a large amount of the treatment into just a few areas. This will help you achieve a more natural look.
After Your Treatment
Following your Juvéderm treatment, your doctor will give you a set of instructions on how to help your body heal. It’s normal to experience minimal bruising, swelling, redness, or tenderness in the area where Juvéderm was injected. Your doctor may allow you to use ice on the area to help bring down the swelling.
In order to help your body heal, it’s also recommended that you avoid strenuous exercise or any other intense activities that may result in movement of the treated area. It is also recommended to avoid heat and areas of extreme heat such as saunas, hot tubs, and more. If you have any questions, please consult with your doctor.
