What Is a Facelift?
A facelift is a surgical procedure in which your doctor will reduce the signs of aging to give you a more youthful appearance. As you age, your face starts to lose some of the natural contours, due to relaxation of the skin, deepening of the folds, excess fat, and more. Because a facelift is a surgical procedure, the patient will need to undergo anesthesia. However, the results of the procedure are more significant and visible, and typically last longer than other similar treatment methods.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
The great thing about a facelift is that there is no age limit in which the procedure will be more or less effective. Good candidates for a facelift include those who have:
- Fat that has fallen or disappeared in the face
- Jowls developing around the cheeks and jaw
- Relaxed skin causing sagging around the face
- Deeping fold lines around your mouth and nose
In addition to the normal signs of aging, good candidates for a facelift also include those who feel self-conscious about their appearance. You can receive a facelift at any time in your life if you are in good health, and it can help correct sagging and loose skin around your neck and jaw, giving you the younger appearance you desire.
The Recovery Period
As we mentioned earlier, facelifts are surgical procedures, which means you will need to give your body time to recover. During the procedure, your surgeon will sculpt and redistribute any fat around your face, as well as trim away any excess skin. The result is a more sculpted and toned face. However, once you are finished with surgery, it may take some time for your face to fully heal, and in that time it is best to have someone take care of you or lend a hand while you’re recovering. Generally, it can take 10 days or more to recover. Most people, however, need about two weeks before they feel comfortable enough to return back to work and their normal routine.
